Icon 2005: Science Fiction, Fantasy and Roleplaying Festival.
Tel Aviv Cinemateque October 18-21, 2005.

ICon -- the ninth annual celebration of Israel's Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Roleplaying fans, is under way. This is the ninth year the festival will be held at the Tel Aviv Cinemateque during the intermediate days of the Pentecost holiday.

Icon 2005 will be held in the Tel Aviv Cinemateque and the nearby Eshkol Pais at October 18-21, 2005. This year's Icon theme is "Illusions", a theme which encapsulates a wide variety of genre works.

The festival is produced in collaboration with the city of Tel Aviv's municipality and the Tel Aviv Cinematheque by three volunteer-based NPOs in Israel: The Israeli Society for Science Fiction and Fantasy; Starbase 972 – The Israeli Star Trek Fan Club; and the Israeli Role-Playing association.

The highlight of the festival will be the participation of American fantasy author Tim Powers. Powers' novels have won two Philip K. Dick awards, two World Fantasy award, three Locus awards, one Mythopoetic award, one International Horror Guild award, one Geffen award, and several others. Powers' work deals with Secret History, a genre that has become incredibly popular in the last couple of years thanks to the writing of Dan Brown and his "Da Vinci Code". Two of Powers' novels have been translated to Hebrew and a third traslation will be published with his arrival. Powers will participate in a variety of events during the festival, including a master's class on writing, a lecture about the festival's theme, a panel and Q&A session, and of course a book signing event.
